The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced exciting updates to its Grant Central platform, designed to make it easier than ever for cities and towns to plan, design, and deliver local transportation improvement projects.

These new tools and programs will help communities streamline their grant management process, access new funding opportunities, and advance local infrastructure initiatives.

What’s New

Fully Integrated Application (FIA)
Municipalities can now apply for all MassDOT community grant programs through one streamlined application system, saving time and reducing administrative burden.

Two New Grant Programs

  • Unpaved Roads Grant Program – Supports improvements to rural and unpaved roads.
  • Community Culvert Grant Program – Provides funding to upgrade culverts for improved stormwater flow and resilience.

Grant Round Open November 6 – January 9
MassDOT is now accepting applications for the following programs:

  • Unpaved Roads
  • Community Culvert
  • Complete Streets
  • Shared Streets and Spaces
  • Local Bottleneck Reduction
  • Municipal Small Bridge

Available Funding

  • Design Grants up to $150,000 for Unpaved Roads, Complete Streets, and Shared Streets and Spaces
  • MassDOT-Led Design Support for Community Culvert, Local Bottleneck Reduction, and Municipal Small Bridge programs
  • Construction Grants up to $1,000,000 across all programs
  • Equipment & Materials Grants up to $250,000

Upcoming Training Sessions

To help municipalities and regional transit authorities get familiar with the new programs and the integrated application process, MassDOT will host the following Zoom training sessions:

  • Thursday, October 30 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Thursday, November 13 | 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Thursday, December 4 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

A separate session for consultants and MassDOT personnel will be held on Wednesday, November 12 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM.
