The Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A) Grant program’s pre-application eligibility for Implementation Grants review requests are due on Friday, May 9. Implementation Grants are one of two grant offerings of this critical federal program aimed at significantly reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities by empowering local governments to implement robust safety action plans.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has outlined two areas applicants can apply for:

  1. Planning & Demonstration Grants: dedicated to support communities in crafting effective safety action plans. They empower initiatives like feasibility studies and quick-build projects to enhance safety measures.
  2. Implementation Grants: dedicated to funding projects that put existing action plans into action; funding project-level planning, design and development connected to the implementation of projects and strategies. For example, enabling the development of separated bike lanes and the enhancement of intersection safety, driving real change in community safety.

In fiscal year 2025, the SS4A program is poised to allocate $982 million for projects. This includes approximately $580 million for Implementation Grants and around $402 million allocated for Planning and Demonstration Grants. Funding is available for projects with budgets ranging from $100,000 to $25 million, and applicants must commit to a 20% matching contribution. Take action now to protect your community and improve safety on our streets!
