The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF) is now accepting applications for the Farmers Drought Relief Fund. Applications may be submitted through June 20, 2025, at 5 p.m.

Funding is dedicated to farmers to support agricultural water management plans and the installation of water sources. Eligible water sources may include dug wells, drilled wells, gravel packed wells and water storage ponds.

Other allowable costs include:

  • Development of an agricultural water management plan prepared by a Soil & Water Conservation District or other qualified technical service provider
  • Installation or deepening of a dug water well
  • Installation of a drilled bedrock well
  • Installation of a gravel-packed well
  • Construction or expansion of a water storage pond
  • Water pumps and necessary appurtenant equipment for a water storage pond

The program is intended to support agricultural water management for Maine croplands and agricultural communities. If your community is dense with agricultural operations, those in your community may be eligible.
