The state of Connecticut has announced $7.5 million in funding to help municipalities improve recycling efforts and manage solid waste disposal.

The Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) Grant Program, managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is accepting applications for a second round of grants. The grants will support food scrap collection, unit-based pricing programs, and other waste reduction, recycling and diversion initiatives, as recommended by the Connecticut Coalition for Sustainable Materials Management, which includes over a hundred municipalities.

In the past three years, the SMM Grant Program has effectively funded waste diversion programs across 15 municipalities, successfully promoting Unit-Based Pricing (UBP) and separate collection of food scraps. Do your part and don’t miss out. Apply by June 27, 2025! For detailed information, refer to the Request for application (RFA).
