The Governor of Florida recently announced more than $389 Million in grant funding for water improvement projects across the state. This grant funding is designed to support water quality and supply across Florida with $189 Million in Water Quality Improvement Grants, $55 Million in Alternative Water Supply Grants, $100 million in the Indian River Lagoon Protection Program, $25 million through the Caloosahatchee Watershed Grant Program, and $20 million in the Biscayne Bay Water Quality Improvement Grant Program.

This funding shows Florida’s commitment to water supply and distribution. Statewide resources continue to support water suppliers in an evolving regulatory environment, and an uncertain federal grant cycle.

This funding is not yet available- but there are funding opportunities that are currently open through the Florida Department of Environmental Protect (DEP). These include the Nonpoint Source Funds. This grant accepts applications year-round for projects that address nonpoint source pollution from land use activities. Projects that are not funded in the current funding cycle will be considered in the following cycle without resubmission.

Florida DEP has had a robust response to the recent grant funding cycle, with 348 submissions for $2.2 billion in funding. These projects supported stormwater projects, sewer improvements, restoration, and nutrient reduction in the state. Water suppliers across should keep a close watch on DEP resources for when these additional funds become available, as the state continues to support its water quality.
