The Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is actively providing funding to municipalities to support essential planning, revitalization, and development activities that align with Vermont’s land use goal of maintaining compact settlements surrounded by rural lands.

The Municipal Planning Grant (MPG) Program decisively finances a range of municipal planning projects. Projects that effectively promote Vermont’s historic pattern of compact settlements surrounded by working farms, forests, and open spaces will receive priority.

Eligible projects may include:

  • Creating or updating a municipal plan
  • Initiatives related to the Resilience, Biodiversity & Land Use Act, including zoning and subdivision bylaws
  • Projects focused on climate resilience and flood recovery
  • Housing development projects
  • New or updated capital programs and budgets for infrastructure maintenance and improvements

These initiatives are critical to shaping a sustainable future for Vermont communities.
