State of Massachusetts Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant Program Now Accepting 2025 Grant Applications

The Massachusetts Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Grant Program provides funding for the acquisition, development and renovation of public parks, trails and conservation areas. Eligible applicants can receive up to 50% reimbursement of total project costs, supporting initiatives that enhance outdoor recreational opportunities and conserve natural resources. 

Eligible Projects

Funding can be used for: 

  • Acquisition: Purchasing park land or conservation land.
  • New Parks: Creating new public parks.
  • Renovations: Improving existing parks.
  • Trails: Developing or expanding trail systems.

Eligible Applicants

  • Municipalities with an up-to-date Open Space and Recreation Plan
  • State agencies, including the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and Department of Fish and Game (DFG)
  • Federally recognized Massachusetts tribes, including the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah)

Key Requirements

  • Applicants must provide 50% of the total project cost through local funding, state sources or other grants.
  • Projects must adhere to federal and state standards, including environmental and accessibility regulations.
