The State of Massachusetts has released a new grant opportunity designed to make the Commonwealth welcoming, inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible outdoors. The grant targets outdoor recreation events that are scheduled prior to June 30, 2024, that propose new inclusive or accessible outdoor recreation events that specifically target new or underserved audiences or boost existing events with new and/or accessible components.

Potential projects include event promotions, gear support, transportation, language translation, accessibility equipment and take down gates.  This is a reimbursement grant with no match required, and the State plans to fund 10-15 events with the $100,000 available for the program.

Eligible applicants include municipalities, but also non-profit organizations and tribal entities. This grant would not apply to field or court sports, or events that take place solely on paved surfaces such as road or bike races.

Applications are due electronically by 5 p.m. on February 3, 2024.
