Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is encouraging all communities across the Commonwealth to apply for the FY23 Emergency Management Performance Grant to obtain funds for implementing the National Preparedness System (NPS) and prepare for hazards in their jurisdictions. There are five cost categories, with the most useful to towns being for either equipment or training, which will improve the department’s readiness to prepare for hazards. This is a reimbursement grant which requires a dollar-for-dollar match. Funding is based upon population with grants ranging from $2,500 to $71,335, with slightly higher awards for communities with higher social vulnerability indexes (SVI). Applications must be emailed in by December 29 and each community must have proof of registration in the Federal SAM system. Webinar briefings were held last month, but interested communities can reach out to MEMA for details if they were unable to attend.
