Again, this year the State of Massachusetts has funded this competitive grant program with $5 million for the purchase of firefighter safety equipment. Communities are eligible for awards between $10,500 and $50,000 depending on their population, with the highest priority items being replacing equipment that doesn’t meet NFPA or OSHA standards, purchasing new NFPA or OSHA equipment the department doesn’t have to meet minimum operational standards, and others.
Communities must attend a webinar about how to apply for the grant through the Department of Fire Services’ Learning Management System before the application deadline. Other requirements include being compliant with the State MFIRS system for CY 2022 and following state procurement requirements. Questions about the program must be submitted by November 24th, after which the online application is due by December 1st at 5 p.m. Award announcements are expected by the first week in January, after which equipment must be purchased by June 30, 2024.
