The New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) is an independent state authority established to conserve and preserve the state’s vital natural, cultural, and historic resources.
LCHIP accomplishes this by providing matching grants to communities between $10,000 to $500,000 and non-profit organizations, supporting their efforts to acquire land or historic resources and rehabilitate historic structures, while helping to maintain New Hampshire’s quality of life and traditional values.
Since 2001, LCHIP has partnered with community groups across New Hampshire to protect the state’s natural, cultural, and historic resources. LCHIP offers financial grants in three key areas:
- Preservation Planning Grants: Supporting the study of historic resources.
- Historic Rehabilitation Grants: Funding the restoration of eligible historic sites.
- Natural Resource Acquisition Grants: Aiding in the permanent protection of ecologically significant lands through property or easement acquisitions.
In 2024, the NH Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) awarded a substantial $3.3 million in matching grants, supporting 26 vital land conservation and historic preservation projects across the state.
