Again this year, the USDA Forest Service is providing grants to non-profit rural call or volunteer fire departments that serve a population of 10,000 people or less of up to $3,000. The grant will be matched up to that amount by the USDA for a total of $6,000 per project.

The grants will provide funding for training, prevention and equipment purchases, as well as firefighter safety, technology transfer and rural fire defense, with priority given to departments who have not received this grant before.

Medical and rescue proposals are not eligible. Other requirements include the organization being staffed by at least 80% call or volunteer members, recognized by the fire department’s state and NIMS compliant.

Applications are due by December 15, 2023, and grants are paid out on a reimbursement basis.
