Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration is now accepting responses for the FY26 Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grant Program. Responses must be submitted by May 12, 2025, at 4 p.m.

This program supports the removal or replacement of culverts with crossings that meet Massachusetts stream crossing standards. The primary purpose of this funding is to replace ageing, undersized, perched, or degraded culverts or bridges with infrastructure designed to improve flood resiliency in areas of high ecological value.

Eligible applicants include municipalities, towns, cities, districts, commissions, regional governments, and tribal governments. If multiple applicants wish to apply jointly submit one application with one designated Lead Organization.

Awards typically range from $25,000 to $400,000, with larger amounts for construction. DER may consider requests over $400,000 based on funding and project benefits. High-impact projects are more likely to receive larger awards.

Applicants who have applied to this program in the past will find some changes in the FY26 cycle. Changes include updated information on award size, scoring for permanent removal of structures, and clarification on the definition of ‘structures.’

Information can be found on Commbuys and on the Mass.gov website.
