At Capital Strategic Solutions, we are proud to recognize Stephen Price, Senior Project Manager, who shared how his military experience helped shape his career in state and municipal government and why the skills veterans gain are valuable in every industry.
Stephen served from 1977 to 1980 and remained on inactive reserve duty until 1983. After completing his military service, he used his GI Bill benefits to attend school and later graduated from Worcester State University.
From there, he began a career in municipal government and eventually joined Capital Strategic Solutions, first serving as an Interim Treasurer and later moving into his current role as Senior Project Manager.

Why do you think veterans make strong employees?
Veterans bring a wide range of transferable skills that make them valuable in any workplace. Military service develops strong leadership and communication abilities, adaptability to new environments, technical skills, and a solid work ethic. Many veterans also gain technical knowledge and first aid experience, all while learning how to work effectively as part of a team.
What was your experience transitioning from military service into the workplace?
I served from 1977 to 1980 and then remained on inactive reserve duty until 1983. After my military service, I used my GI Bill benefits to attend school and later graduated from Worcester State University. From there, I started a career in municipal government and eventually applied for the position of Interim Treasurer at Capital Strategic Solutions.

Don’t underestimate the value of the skills you gained during your military service. Be sure to communicate your experience to employers and emphasize the qualities you’ve developed, such as teamwork, leadership, crisis management, dependability, and a strong work ethic. It doesn’t matter what your military occupational specialty was—the skills you acquired are applicable across every industry.
What skills from your military service have translated most directly to your career?
Leadership and communication have been the most valuable skills throughout my career, particularly in business and government roles. The military also instilled accountability, responsibility, and a strong work ethic, all of which have helped me succeed in working in municipal government and at Capital Strategic Solutions.
